JOB ANNOUNCEMENT

Harbormaster - Harbors Department

Year-round - 40 hrs/wk - Family Benefits

Grade G - $36,800 - $55,200

Responsible for the operation of New Shoreham’s harbors, the purchase and maintenance of vessels, equipment and facilities; enforcement of all applicable laws and ordinances; collection of harbor related fees; pump-out programs; public education/relations; shellfish aquaculture and enforcement; preparation and administration of Department budgets; water quality testing/improvement programs; Harbor Management Plan implementation, improvements/updating; development of and adherence to Division procedures/policies; staff scheduling/training/supervision.

Education: High School Diploma or GED; Bachelor’s degree in Marine Science or Law Enforcement preferred; Business training or education in financial or business management, US Coast Guard’s License and knowledge of the island harbors operations (Old and New Harbor) preferred.

Skills: Financial management, budget preparation, verbal, written and computer skills; public relations skills; scheduling, training and employee motivation; knowledge of Town Harbor Ordinances, state laws (boating, fishing, shellfishing), navigation rules and federal statutes; proficient in safe boat handling and navigation.

Experience: Three years business management and supervisory experience; five years experience operating power/sail vessels and five years experience in a boating public related field ie: marina management, charter vessels, US Coast Guard service.
