Police Chief Vincent Carlone reports that because of the recent high incidence of debris flying out of truck beds on the way to the Transfer Station, a police officer will be stationed on West Beach Road to confirm that commercial vehicles and pick-up trucks secure their loads with a tarp or other form of covering.

By law, all loads - whether leaves or lumber - need to be "securely fastened so as to prevent the covering or loads from becoming loose, detached, or in any manner a hazard to other users of the highway." A first offense brings with it a $100 fine and a court appearance, says Carlone.
