The island will celebrate Independence Day with a fireworks display at Fred Benson Town Beach on Friday, July 3 at dusk around 9 p.m. If fireworks are canceled due to rain, dark blue flags will fly at the town beach, the National Hotel, the Spring House and the Oar. Rain date is Saturday, July 4. Call (401) 466-5343 after 4 p.m. to confirm fireworks display.

The annual Fourth of July parade will kick off Saturday at 11:30 a.m. at Legion Park and travel down Ocean Avenue and into Old Harbor. The traditional Steak Fry at the Fire Barn will start after the parade passes the barn on Beach Avenue.
